Applications
BLS® 650 is a preferred UV absorber for polyurethane applications due to its excellent compatibility, minimal yellowing, and ease of use. It enhances light stability in polyurethanes and epoxies, and mixes easily with polyols for straightforward application. When gently heated, it liquefies for use and works well with HALS and antioxidants such as BNX® 1135 for added protection. This makes BLS® 650 ideal for use in PU foams, coatings, films, and plates, offering reliable UV protection.
Advantages
- Strong UV protection for Polyurethane and epoxy-based systems
- Synergistic performance with HALS and primary antioxidants
- Low levels of discoloration
- Highly miscible with polyether and polyester-based polyols
Guidelines for Use
Suggested use levels in polyurethane and epoxy systems range from 0.5% to 3.0% by weight based on total solids. Combinations of BLS® 650 with other light stabilizers such as HALS often show synergistic performance. Typically, HALS are loaded at between 0.5 to 2.0% loading. The exact formulation to be used is dependent on the substrate, performance requirements, and other factors, and should be determined by the user based on testing to simulate actual conditions of use. Please contact your Mayzo representative for specific recommendations for your application.
Storage
This product may be stored up to two years in a sealed container. Containers should be kept tightly closed when not in use and stored in a cool, dry place.
Safety
Please consult the Safety Data Sheet (SDS) prior to handling or using this product. BLS® 650 tends to crystallize at low temperatures, reheating to 60-70 °C prior to usage is acceptable before usage.
FDA Regulations
BLS® 650 has not been cleared by the FDA for use in food contact applications.
