Optical Brighteners

Optical Brighteners

Optical brighteners, or fluorescent whitening agents, are used to make plastics, fibers, coatings, inks, and detergents appear whiter and brighter.

These products function by absorbing invisible ultraviolet light and re-emitting it as visible light in the blue range of the spectrum.

The absorbance and emission spectra of the optical brightener Benetex OB are outlined on the product data sheets.

  • These products are particularly useful to mask the yellowish cast sometimes observed in plastics and fibers after high temperature processing operations.
  • They are also used in substrates containing pigments or dyes to make colors appear more brilliant.

Benetex® OB

Overview

Benetex OB is a heat resistant, solvent soluble, chemically stable fluorescent whitener that provides brighter looking colors.  It is used to offset the yellowness of a polymer and to yield a whiter appearance.  Optical brighteners create brilliance by absorbing UV light, modifying the wavelength of the light and then emitting the light in a fluorescent fashion.  Benetex OB can also be used as a tracer in various applications and as an optical brightener in thermoplastics, coatings, printing inks, dyes, man-made fibers, waxes, fats, and oils.

Benetex OB-1

Overview

Benetex OB-1 is a heat resistant and chemically stable fluorescent whitener that increases  whiteness and provides brighter looking colors.  It is used to offset the yellowness of a polymer and to yield a whiter appearance.  Optical brighteners create brilliance by a fluorescence process involving absorption of invisible UV light and emission of visible blue light.  Benetex OB-1 is especially useful in polyester and nylon fibers, as well as in high temperature engineering plastics.

Benetex OB Plus

Overview

Benetex OB Plus is a heat resistant, solvent soluble, chemically stable fluorescent whitener that provides brighter looking colors.  It is used to offset the yellowness of a polymer and to yield a whiter appearance.  Optical brighteners create brilliance by absorbing UV light, modifying the wavelength of the light and then emitting the light in a fluorescent fashion.  Benetex OB Plus can also be used as a tracer in various applications and as an optical brightener in thermoplastics, coatings, printing inks, dyes, man-made fibers, waxes, fats, and oils. This fine powder form is ideally suited for: 1.) screen printing applications where reduced clogging of equipment is critical to increase productivity and 2.) clear-coat applications where efficiency of dispersion and a smooth coating appearance is needed

Benetex OB-M1

Overview

Benetex OB-M1 is a light fast, chlorine stable, highly soluble fluorescent whitening agent.  It is compatible with conventional and compact detergent powders, liquid detergents, industrial detergents as well as soap bars, softeners, and boosters.  It is effective at relative low loading levels over the whole temperature range from cold to medium washing temperatures.  Optical brighteners create brilliance by absorbing UV light, modifying the wavelength of the light and then emitting the light in a fluorescent fashion.  Benetex OB-M1 can also be used as a tracer in various water systems.
