Overview

BENEFOS® 1500 is a phosphite secondary antioxidant in micro-bead form that is produced using an innovative, proprietary form-giving process. It is used to protect plastics, adhesives, sealants, tackifier resins, elastomers, and lubricants against thermal oxidative degradation at high temperatures, for example during melt processing operations. The micro-bead form is inherently low dusting and has excellent flow characteristics.

Applications

BENEFOS® 1500 is an effective processing stabilizer in polyolefins, including polyethylene, polypropylene, polybutene, and olefin copolymers such as EVA. It is also suitable for use in polyamides, polycarbonates, polyesters, polyurethanes, styrenic polymers, elastomers, adhesives, sealants, natural and synthetic tackifier resins, powder coatings, and lubricants.

Advantages

  • Low dusting micro-bead product form
  • Excellent flow characteristics for easy handling and accurate dosing
  • Provides excellent melt stability and color control in polyolefins and other plastics
  • Superior resistance to hydrolysis as compared to other phosphites
  • Synergistic performance with phenolic primary antioxidants (BNX® 1400, etc.)
  • Low volatility
  • Extensive FDA clearances

Guidelines for Use

Suggested use levels range from 0.02% to 0.2% in polyolefins and from 0.05% to 0.5% in other substrates. Combinations of BENEFOS® 1500 with phenolic primary antioxidants (BNX® 1400 and others) often show synergistic performance. BENEFOS® 1500 is also suitable for use in combination with other antioxidants (for example thioethers) and light stabilizers, including hindered amine light stabilizers (HALS), UV absorbers, and benzoates. The exact formulation to be used is dependent on the substrate, performance requirements, and other factors, and should be determined by the user based on testing to simulate actual conditions of use. Please contact your Mayzo representative for specific recommendations for your application.
