Applications

BLS® 1718 is a highly effective light stabilizer in polyolefins (HDPE, PP, and TPO thick section molded parts), styrenic polymers (ABS, ASA, HIPS, SAN), thermoplastic elastomers (TPE), unsaturated polyesters, and polyurethanes. It is particularly effective in polypropylene thick section
applications, and is also suitable for use in articles with a high surface area such as PP films and tapes. Specialty applications include adhesives and sealants.

Advantages

  • Highly effective as a light stabilizer in plastics, even when used at low concentrations
  • Useful in thick sections as well as high surface area applications such as PP film and tape
  • Synergistic performance with other light stabilizers (UV absorbers, benzoates)
  • Non-interacting with fatty amides used as anti-scratch additives in automotive TPO
  • Non-discoloring
  • Excellent compatibility with polyolefins

Guidelines for Use

Suggested use levels range from 0.05% to 0.5%, depending on the substrate, processing conditions, and performance requirements. Combinations of BLS® 1718 with other light stabilizers, such as high molecular weight HALS, UV absorbers, and benzoates often show synergistic performance. The exact formulation to be used is dependent on the substrate, performance requirements, and other factors, and should be determined by the user based on testing to simulate actual conditions of use. Please contact your Mayzo representative for specific recommendations for your application.
