Overview
BENEFOS® 1120 is a high performance phosphite secondary antioxidant used to protect plastics and other substrates against thermal oxidative degradation at high temperatures, for example during melt processing operations.
Chemistry
Chemical Name: Bis (2,4-dicumylphenyl)pentaerythritodiphosphate
CAS Number: 154862-43-8
Chemical Structure
Typical Properties
Product Form: White, free flowing powder
Melting Range: 225 – 246oC
Molecular Weight: 852.97 g/mol
Applications
BENEFOS® 1120 is an advanced antioxidant ideal for engineering plastics such as polyester and nylon, ensuring color stability during compounding. It also benefits non-engineering plastics like PP, PVC, PS, POM, ABS, and PMMA by enhancing their properties. Its high thermal stability makes it suitable for high-temperature polymer processing, maintaining material integrity. However, its high melting point, may restrict use in low-temperature polymers like PE and PU.
Advantages
- Provides excellent melt stability and color control in polyolefins and other plastics
- Demonstrates extraordinary hydrolytic stability, outperforming other phosphite antioxidants in
humid conditions - Synergistic performance with phenolic primary antioxidants (BNX® 1010, BNX® 1076, etc.)
- Maintains free-flowing powder form even under extreme humidity, preventing processing
challenges associated with additive handling. - Provides exceptional thermal stability, with a decomposition onset significantly higher than
traditional phosphite antioxidants, facilitating its use in high-temperature applications - Low volatility
Guidelines for Use
Suggested use levels range from 0.02% to 0.2% in polyolefins and from 0.05% to 0.5% in other substrates. Combinations of BENEFOS® 1120 with phenolic primary antioxidants (BNX® 1010, BNX® 1076, and others) often show synergistic performance. BENEFOS® 1120 is also suitable for use in combination with other antioxidants (for example thioethers) and light stabilizers, including hindered amine light stabilizers (HALS), UV absorbers, and benzoates. The exact formulation to be used is dependent on the substrate, performance requirements, and other factors, and should be determined by the user based on testing to simulate actual conditions of use. Storage
This product may be stored up to two years in a sealed container. Containers should be kept tightly closed when not in use and stored in a cool, dry place. While this product is more hydrolytically stable than other high performance phosphites, it will still has moisture sensitivity. Guard against exposure to humidity or moisture to maintain product quality, and use opened containers as soon as possible to avoid hydrolysis, especially during humid weather.
Safety
Please consult the Safety Data Sheet (SDS) prior to handling or using this product.
