Overview
BLS® 1326 is a benzotriazole UV absorber that is used for the light stabilization of plastics, adhesives, sealants, and elastomers.
Chemistry
Chemical Name: 2-(2′-Hydroxy-3′-t-butyl-5′-methylphenyl)-5-chlorobenzotriazole
CAS Number: 3896-11-5
Chemical Structure
Typical Properties
Product Form: Solid
Melting Range: 138 -141oC
Molecular Weight: 315.8 g/mol
Applications
BLS® 1326 is useful for the light stabilization of plastics, including polyolefins (polyethylene, polypropylene, and olefin copolymers such as EVA), unsaturated polyesters (including cold cure systems), acrylics, and polyvinyl butyral (PVB). Specialty applications include adhesives, sealants, and elastomers.
Advantages
- Protects plastics and other substrates from the damaging effects of UV radiation
- Strong absorption of UV radiation in the 300-400 nm region
- In packaging applications, protects packaged content from UV radiation
- Red-shifted UV absorbance as compared to other benzotriazole UV absorbers
- Synergistic performance with other light stabilizers (HALS, benzoates)
- FDA compliant
Guidelines for Use
Suggested use levels range from 0.1% to 0.5% in polyolefins and from 0.2% to 0.5% in unsaturated polyesters. Combinations of BLS® 1326 with other light stabilizers such as HALS and benzoates often show synergistic performance. The exact formulation to be used is dependent on the substrate, performance requirements, and other factors, and should be determined by the user based on testing to simulate actual conditions of use. Please contact your Mayzo representative for specific recommendations for your application.
Storage
This product may be stored up to two years in a sealed container. Containers should be kept tightly closed when not in use and stored in a cool, dry place.
Safety
Please consult the Safety Data Sheet (SDS) prior to handling or using this product.
FDA Regulations
BLS® 1326 has been cleared for use in food contact applications under 21 CFR §178.2010 (antioxidants and/or stabilizers for polymers). Please consult the referenced regulations for complete details, including restrictions of use.
