Overview
BNX® 1330 is a primary antioxidant that provides excellent protection against thermal oxidative degradation over a broad temperature range in plastics, adhesives, elastomers, tackifier resins, and engineering plastics.
Chemistry
Chemical Name: 2,4,6-Tri(3,5-di-tert-butyl-4hydroxybenzyl)mesitylene
CAS Number: 1709-70-2
Chemical Structure
Typical Properties
Product Form: Solid
Melting Point: 224oC
Molecular Weight: 775.2 g/mol
Applications
BNX® 1330 is a highly effective antioxidant and process stabilizer in polyolefins, including polyethylene and polypropylene. Its excellent resistance to extraction by water and solvents makes it ideal for pipe applications. In water-quenched polypropylene films, BNX® 1330 produces less water carry-over than other antioxidants. It also provides superior performance in filled polyolefins due to its low interaction characteristics. It is also suitable for use in other applications, including hot melt adhesives, elastomers, tackifier resins, and engineering plastics.
Advantages
- Provides protection during high temperature processing and long term heat aging
- Synergistic performance with secondary antioxidants (phosphites, thioethers)
- Highly resistant to extraction by water and solvents
- Provides decreased water carry-over in water quenched polypropylene films
- Low interaction with fillers for superior performance in filled polyolefins
- Extensive FDA clearances
Guidelines for Use
Suggested use levels range from 0.02% to 0.5% in polyolefins. Combinations of BNX® 1330 with other antioxidants such as phosphites and thioethers often show synergistic performance. BNX® 1330 is also suitable for use in combination with light stabilizers, including hindered amine light stabilizers (HALS), UV absorbers, and benzoates. The exact formulation to be used is dependent on the substrate, performance requirements, and other factors, and should be determined by the user based on testing to simulate actual conditions of use. Please contact your Mayzo representative for specific recommendations for your application.
Storage
This product may be stored up to two years in a sealed container. Containers should be kept tightly closed when not in use and stored in a cool, dry place.
Safety
Please consult the Safety Data Sheet (SDS) prior to handling or using this product.
FDA Regulations
BNX® 1330 has extensive clearances for use in food contact applications under 21 CFR §178.2010 (antioxidants and/or stabilizers for polymers). Please consult the referenced regulations for complete details, including restrictions of use.
