Applications
BLS® 605 finds its primary applications in high-performance automotive OEM and industrial powder coatings, offering exceptional durability and stability for these demanding uses. Its advanced formulation makes it a preferred choice for coatings applied to a variety of substrates, including plastics and wood, especially in automotive clear coats and high-performance UV curing systems. The product is particularly effective when used in combination with HALS, such as BLS 1144, BLS 292, or BLS 123, where it helps to significantly reduce the risk of gloss reduction, cracking, blistering, delamination, and color change in outdoor applications. This UV absorber is a critical component in creating long-lasting, high-quality coatings for transportation and industrial products, ensuring they withstand harsh environmental conditions without compromising their aesthetic or functional integrity.
Advantages
- Provides excellent photo-permanence particularly suited for use in coatings applications
- Maintains protective qualities at high temperatures for superior thermal stability
- Non-migrating
- Strong absorption of UV radiation in the UV-B region
- Synergistic performance with other light stabilizers
- Non-interacting with metal catalysts, amine cross-linkers
- Improved regulatory acceptance as compared to benzotriazole UV absorbers
Guidelines for Use
Suggested use levels in plastics, adhesives, and candles range from 0.5% to 1.0%, and in coatings from 1% to 3% based on total solids. Combinations of BLS® 605 with HALS light stabilizers show synergistic performance when used at loading levels of 0.5% to 2.0%. The exact formulation to be used is dependent on the substrate, performance requirements, and other factors, and should be determined by the user based on testing to simulate actual conditions of use. Please contact your Mayzo representative for specific recommendations for your application.
