Applications
BNX® 180 is a versatile antioxidant that is particularly effective in enhancing the longevity and stability of various polymers, including engineering plastics, polyolefins, styrene polymers, polyurethane fiber, rubber, sealants, and adhesives. Notably, it exhibits a remarkable synergistic effect when used in conjunction with thioether secondary antioxidants such as BNX® 4120, BNX® DSTDP, and BNX® DLTDP, contributing significantly to the long-term heat stability (LTHS) of these materials. This makes BNX® 180 an excellent choice for applications requiring resistance to discoloration, particularly in the presence of NOx gas, during and after processing. The effectiveness of BNX® 180 extends across a wide range of polymer types. In engineering plastics, it is suitable for use in materials like PBT, POM, PC, PA, and HIPS. For polyolefins, it is used in PP, PE, LDPE, and LLDPE. In the realm of styrene resins, it is applicable to ABS and PS. Additionally, BNX® 180 serves well in polyurethane, latex, synthetic rubber, and various adhesive and sealant formulations. Its ability to provide long-term stabilization, coupled with great process stability, makes BNX® 180 an ideal antioxidant for a broad spectrum of industrial and commercial applications.
Advantages
- Improves process stability during high temperature processing and long term heat aging
- Inherently resistant to warehouse discoloration (“gas fading”)
- Non-staining and non-discoloring
- Great retention and low volatility
Guidelines for Use
Suggested use levels range from 0.05% to 1.5% in polymers. Combinations of BNX® 180 with secondary antioxidants such as thioethers often show synergistic performance. BNX® 180 is also suitable for use in combination with light stabilizers, including hindered amine light stabilizers (HALS), UV absorbers, and benzoates. The exact formulation to be used is dependent on the substrate, performance requirements, and other factors, and should be determined by the user based on testing to simulate actual conditions of use. Please contact your Mayzo representative for specific recommendations for your application.
