Overview
Benetex® FP is an optical brightener (fluorescent whitening agent) that increases the whiteness of plastics and other substrates and provides brighter looking colors. It is especially useful in PVC, styrenic polymers, thermoplastic polyurethanes (TPU), polycarbonates, and acrylics.
Chemistry
Chemical Name: 4,4′-Bis(2-methoxystyryl)diphenyl
CAS Number: 40470-68-6
Chemical Structure:
Typical Properties
Product Form: Solid
Melting Point: 219 – 220°C
Molecular Weight: 418.5 g/mol
Applications
Benetex® FP is ideal for use to increase the whiteness and brightness of a variety of plastics, including PVC, styrenic polymers (PS, HIPS, ABS), thermoplastic polyurethanes (TPU), polycarbonates, and acrylics (PMMA). Due to inherently limited light-fastness of optical brighteners, Benetex® FP is generally recommended for indoor use only.
Advantages
- Brilliant, red-shade fluorescence effect compensates for yellowing
- Outstanding whitening properties
- Low volatility and excellent heat resistance
- In combination with dyes, produces particularly bright shades
Guidelines for Use
Suggested use levels range from 50 to 2000 ppm (0.005-0.2%). Benetex® FP can be used alone or in a variety of blends and combinations with other additives, including antioxidants, processing stabilizers, and light stabilizers. Higher load levels are required if it is used in combination with a UV absorber. The exact formulation to be used is dependent on the substrate, performance requirements, and other factors, and should be determined by the user based on testing to simulate actual conditions of use. Please contact your Mayzo representative for specific recommendations for your application.
