Applications

BLS® 604 delivers exceptional thermal stability and performance, particularly in environments subject to high bake cycles or extreme conditions, making it an indispensable component for solventborne automotive OEM, refinish systems, and UV-cured coatings. Its hydroxy functionality is engineered to reduce migration, ensuring consistent protection over time. BLS® 604 is a high concentration liquid to ensure high efficiency in industrial coatings, exterior construction applications like roofing, as well as in construction adhesives and sealants. When combined with HALS such as BLS® 123, or 292, BLS® 604’s protective capabilities are significantly enhanced, further preventing gloss reduction, delamination, and other common issues in clear coatings. It can also be considered as an alternative in applications where the replacement of benzotriazole UV absorbers is desired for regulatory compliance reasons.

Advantages

  • Provides excellent photo-permanence particularly suited for use in coatings applications
  • Strong absorption of UV radiation in the UV-B region
  • Synergistic performance with other light stabilizers
  • Exhibits low coloration and minimal migration, maintain the original hue for coatings
  • Non-interacting with metal catalysts, amine cross-linkers
  • Improved regulatory acceptance as compared to benzotriazole UV absorbers

Guidelines for Use

Suggested use levels in plastics, adhesives, and candles range from 0.5% to 1.0%, and in coatings from 1% to 3% based on total solids. Combinations of BLS® 604 with HALS light stabilizers show synergistic performance when used at loading levels of 0.5% to 2.0%. The exact formulation to be used is dependent on the substrate, performance requirements, and other factors, and should be determined by the user based on testing to simulate actual conditions of use. Please contact your Mayzo representative for specific recommendations for your application.
