Overview

BLS® 1111 is a hindered amine light stabilizer (HALS) system that provides excellent light stability in powder coatings. It is also suitable for use as a light stabilizer in plastics, adhesives, sealants, and elastomers.

Chemistry

Chemical Name:             Proprietary

CAS Number:                   Proprietary

Typical Properties

Product Form:                 Solid

Melting Range:                115 – 150oC

Applications

BLS® 1111 provides excellent performance as a light stabilizer in powder coating applications, including PES and epoxy/PES systems. The use in combination with UV absorbers such as BLS® 9218 or BLS® 234 is recommended to provide optimum light stability.
BLS® 1111 is also suitable for use in polyolefins (HDPE moldings, PE and EVA films, PP fibers), polyurethanes, polyacetals, adhesives, sealants, and elastomers. Compared to conventional HALS systems, BLS® 1111 provides improved chemical resistance, which makes it ideal for use in applications such as agricultural films.

Advantages

  • Extends the lifetime of coatings by minimizing defects such as loss of gloss and cracking
  • Enhances the triboelectric effect in powder coatings for improved transfer efficiency
  • Synergistic performance with other light stabilizers
  • Improved chemical resistance as compared to conventional HALS, for superior performance in applications such as agricultural films
  • FDA compliant

Guidelines for Use

Suggested use levels in powder coatings range from 0.5 to 2%, in combination with BLS® 9128 or BLS® 234 at from 1 to 3%. In plastics and other substrates, suggested use levels are at 0.1–1.5%. The addition of secondary antioxidants such as BENEFOS® 1626 or BENEFOS® 1680 can help to reduce discoloration caused by high temperature curing or over-baking. In plastics and other substrates, suggested use levels range from 0.1 to 1.5%. Combinations of BLS® 1111 with other light stabilizers (UV absorbers and/or benzoates) often provide synergistic performance. The exact formulation to be used is dependent on the substrate, performance requirements, and other factors, and should be determined by the user based on testing to simulate actual conditions of use.
