Applications
BLS® 5050 is highly effective in stabilizing a wide range of polymers and applications. It is particularly well-suited for plastic films and tapes, including PP film and tape, metallocene LLDPE films, greenhouse films, and heat-sealable packaging films. In the automotive sector, BLS® 5050 provides excellent stabilization in thermoplastic polyolefin (TPO) formulations, ensuring optimal adhesion for painted components. It also enhances weatherability and resists degradation from exposure to sulfur- and chlorine-based chemicals in agricultural films. Additionally, it offers excellent UV protection in geomembranes, HDPE and LLDPE rotomolding grades, and water and gas piping. BLS® 5050 is also effective in stabilizing PP fibers, HDPE injection-molded parts, and gamma-radiation sterilized plastics.
Advantages
- Excellent compatibility with a broad range of polymers, including polyolefins (PE, PP), PVC, PA, TPU, ABS, and PET.
- Provides superior light and heat stabilization to extend the lifespan of plastic materials.
- Minimizes water carry-over during processing, improving production efficiency in tape and film applications.
- Reduces gas fading and minimizes interactions with agricultural chemicals, fluoroelastomers, and acid-catalyzed coatings.
- Improves heat-sealing performance in packaging films by reducing surface interactions.
Guidelines for Use
The recommended use levels of BLS® 5050 vary depending on the polymer and application. In polyolefins and PVC, loadings typically range from 0.1% to 1.0%, while for films and tapes, the recommended levels are between 0.3% and 0.8%. For automotive TPO and coatings, suggested loadings fall within 0.5% to 1.5%, and for agricultural films, they range from 0.5% to 2.0%. BLS® 5050 can be used alone or in combination with UV absorbers and other stabilizers to enhance overall performance. The exact formulation should be determined based on substrate compatibility, processing conditions, and end-use performance requirements. Please contact Mayzo for specific recommendations.
