Introduction:

Escoat WFX Release Coat is a non-silicone, acrylic water based emulsion, which provides consistent release characteristics for tape and label products.   Escoat WFX  has a consistent wetting and adhesion performance with PET and corona treated PE substrates.  Escoat WFX can be used on masking tape and other tapes where an aqueous coating is needed.

Mixing Instructions:

Depending on the type of substrate and pressure sensitive adhesive, the concentration of solid matter required should be determined by laboratory trial. Escoat WFX Release Coat diluted to between 2.0% to 5.0% solids will be adequate in most pressure sensitive applications. Some applications may require a higher solids concentration to assure complete surface coverage (crepe paper). Stir well before use.

Applications:

Escoat WFX Release Coat is diluted in water to achieve application concentrations. Depending on the substrate and adhesive, the solids concentration should be determined by lab test. Recommended levels are between 2.0 – 25.0%. Some applications may require a higher solids concentration. Film substrates should be corona treated to ensure adhesion to the substrate. Coat at 4 – 5 gm/m2 (wet coat weight) using conventional coating methods with Meyer rod, Anilox or Gravure rollers. Coated substrate must be thoroughly dry before rewinding. No special “curing” is required as full release performance is achieved with mild heat drying.

Advantages:

  • Offers an easy peel release. The smooth release properties are similar to PVODC release coatings.
  • Cost Efficient. Excellent release can be obtained using as little as 2.0% solids concentration, depending on film, adhesive, coating equipment and desired release levels.
  • Low temperature curing.
  • A glossy coating.
  • Inkjet and print receptive.
  • Can be used with aggressive solvent, hot melt or aqueous acrylic adhesives.
  • Tighter release performance versions are available for a) higher peel or unwind performance, and/or b) use with less aggressive adhesives, or c) for applications requiring only the inkjet/printability performance.
