Introducing Sustainable Additive Chemicals by Mayzo

In today’s business landscape, it is crucial for companies to seek innovative solutions that promote sustainability in their products and production process. However, determining the right approach can be a daunting task. It is essential for your team to experience immediate success to inspire them to set more challenging goals. That is why one of the most effective starting points is #12 Responsible Consumption and Production from the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

“Sustainable consumption and production are about doing more and better with less. It requires a better understanding of the environmental and social impacts of products/services and product life cycles and how these are affected by use within lifestyles.

Identifying “hot spots” within the value chain where interventions have the most significant potential to improve the environmental and social impact of the system as a whole is the goal.”1 https://www.un.org/sustainabledevelopment/sustainable-consumption-production/

At Mayzo, we are deeply committed to continually reviewing our practices and finding ways to become a more sustainable company. We have taken significant steps towards this goal. For example, in 2020, we recognized the need to optimize our operations and decided to invest and open a new facility in Walterboro, South Carolina, in 2021. At over 61,000 sq. ft., the facility houses an expansive warehouse, a chemical laboratory, and production operations.

Experience the Power of Sustainable Additive Chemicals by Mayzo

With our expanded capacity, Mayzo is now able to offer a wider range of services, including repackaging, additive blending, and other customized solutions, both for small-scale and large-scale requirements. Furthermore, we are proud to announce that our operations center has already achieved ISO 9001:2015 certification, a testament to our commitment to quality.

Our sustainable approach brings numerous benefits to our valued customers:

  • Chemical products designed to be less hazardous to human health and the environment.
  • Innovative syntheses and processes that minimize or eliminate chemical waste generation.
  • Implementation of energy and water-efficient procedures throughout our operations.
  • Utilization of feedstocks derived from annually renewable resources or abundant waste materials.
  • Chemical products designed for reuse or recycling.
  • Promotion of the reuse or recycling of chemicals whenever possible.

Mayzo’s ability to provide these additional services has proven instrumental in helping our customers achieve significant reductions in consumption and improvements in production. Here are three real-life examples that showcase the benefits our customers have experienced:

Reduction of Additional Capital Investment Lowers the Need for New Natural Resources.

A process engineer was dosing five components in a UV/AO package, with limited feed ports in the extruder resulting in dosing errors. Mayzo stepped in by creating a custom blend in an easy-to-feed pellet form and a custom package.

As a result, the plant manager avoided making a capital investment in a new feed system. Instead, the process engineer switched to vacuum loading a single product, effectively reducing dosing errors.

Energy-Efficient Mixing for Enhanced Productivity.

A plant engineer had problems dispersing AO into his hot-melt process, resulting in long mix times.

Mayzo created a custom, pre-dispersed liquid blend of the AO package that could be pumped at low temperatures. This innovation allowed the engineer to significantly reduce the mixing time per batch, thanks to the AO being “pre-dispersed” in a liquid carrier.

Hazardous Material Dilution for Production and Safety Enhancements.

An EHS Supervisor at a large plastic extruded part company became aware of the hazardous nature of one of the UV components in their system and sought a solution to mitigate the risk. Instead of costly and time-consuming reformulation, he contacted Mayzo.

Mayzo developed a custom blend that effectively “diluted” the hazardous component as part of a non-hazardous system. The end product was a 100% active pellet using other raw materials in a precise ratio that matched his current feed ratios.

With these real-life examples, Mayzo is ready and willing to help you reach your sustainability goals in 2023 and beyond. To embark on your sustainability journey, please contact us at 1-800-449-9068, or email at sales@mayzo.com.
